Words of EICTV graduate Hispano Durón:
Last Sunday June 28th I got up early eager to take part in the future of my country through a poll called by President Manuel Zelaya. I could not do anything, because at 6:00 AM, soldiers have kidnapped President Zelaya and forced him to leave the country even wearing pyjamas. Simultaneously, the Minister of Foreign Relations of Honduras, Patricia Rodas was kidnapped by armed and hooded military corps accordingly to a report of Cuban ambassador, who was also a victim of kidnapping.
Although some people disagree, this was a violent military coup, as several international analysts have already affirmed. There are rumours that there have been deaths, but nothing is yet confirmed. Far from that, the worst Hondurans are experiencing is the lack of information. Pro-coup forces sealed off six national television channels, including the official channel, and interrupted its signals. Those that are still broadcasting are manipulating the information whether because their political leanings or their fear of being shut down.
The newspapers clearly allied to the opposition group against President Zelaya conceal information and focus on the decisions of Congress, from which emerged the actions that broke constitutional order. Cap it all, they have imposed a "curfew" that forces us to stay at home from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
While external sources like CNN or Telesur are spreading the position of several governments of expressing disagreement with the coup. US government declared they would not recognize another president than the elected by people in the elections.
I join the voices of protest against an illegal and lascivious actions that go against our rights so I'm making a call for solidarity to friends all over the world to demand the return of the constitutional President Manuel Zelaya Rosales, the freedom of the hostages and the return the constitutional order as well as OAS, European Union and several governments are demanding.
I also invoke for a pacific solution to the conflict. This is my position for now.
Words of Nolban Martin Medrano Matamoros and Dora Elizabeth Figueroa Mazariegos: Dear colleagues, All filmmakers who live in Honduras and abroad who believe in democracy, are outraged at the events that have happened in relation to the illegal and violent removal of the President of the Republic and we are deeply offended for the establishment of a new government that goes against the wills of Honduran people. The manipulation of information, the lies of a false letter read by local media, the isolation by internet, telephone, etc..., are just a prove of the kind of regime they are trying to impose. Most of intellectuals and artists are strongly opposed because they violating the rights for which so much people have fought around the world. Therefore, we will keep in contact with the other filmmakers sending them information material that it is being gathered and we sincerely appreciate the support that they are giving from their countries to Honduras.
A hug to everyone,
Elizabeth and Nolban Oscar Estrada, 11th generation
Jerónimo Labrada's response: Hi Francisco and EICTV group, We are following with concern the events taking place in Honduras. I could hardly sleep last night because I was listening to the radio speeches of the presidents in the meeting of Alba, in Nicaragua. It is impressive and instructive how the reactionary forces deploy this level of violence when their interests are affected. However, when we try doing something, they start accusing us of violating all the walking thing happens.
It is also impressive the game that CNN plays with that operation, how they create phrases to describe these actions as a forced transition and the way they quickly help pro-coups to express their ideas in contradiction, they interrupt our talks just because it is entering other news. They are all bastards.
It is very well that you can record those images and sounds, which could be valuable documents in immediate future and for years. I beg you not to risk your security while trying to get spectacular shots or anything like that. I wish you good luck. Give an affectionate hug to all the troops for me and you can count on us.
Jerónimo.
